MH Goals were recently at the Bedfordshire FA End of Season Maintenance Event as sponsors of the Groundsman of the Year award.
The five shortlisted candidates for Groundsman of the Year were visited earlier in the week by a select panel, consisting of James Petty (Football Development Manager), Phil Jeggo (Institute Of Groundsmanship) & Alan Moorhouse (Beds FA Council Member).
The winner was revealed to be Wesley Matthews, the head groundsman at The Warren where Elstow Abbey play in the Bedfordshire County Football League Division Two.
Phil Jeggo (Regional Pitch Advisor) commented “Wes presented a fantastic, well maintained playing surface on limited resources. His innovative ideas are clearly a result of thinking outside of the box and this has resulted in using cricket covers to beat the big freeze as well as making his own aerating equipment and machinery based on his handcraft skills to compete with the desired effect of any purchased equipment.”
MH Goals Sales Director Matthew Harrod presented Matthews, who works as a director at Kempston Windows, with a PJM Linesman line marker machine along with 50L of ready-to-use paint.
“Wesley has produced an outstanding pitch this season and shown real initiative in gaining maximum results with limited resources. He is a very worthy winner of Bedfordshire FA’s Groundsman of the Year and I know he will make good use of his new line marker and paint.”
